IT Intern

Job Summary:

The role of the IT Intern requires the candidate to be a current college student in an information technology (IT) or business-related major who would like to gain IT experience while working within our IT department. The goal of this role is to develop the Intern's understanding and ability to support our ticket-handling process while contributing to the overall success of IT team projects and tasks as assigned.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Utilizes IT equipment to support needs in the corporate office and those of remote users, including helping with physically placing computers, monitors, and peripherals at designated user workstations according to floor plans or layout instructions. 

 

  • Learns how to configure laptops for users, ensuring that all necessary software and applications are installed and functional. 
  • Assists with setting up users on network systems, including creating user accounts, assigning permissions, and ensuring access to necessary resources. 
  • Gains knowledge of how to update software and firmware on all devices to comply with standards and security protocols. 
  • Helps with setting up user accounts and configures computer profiles for users, including personalized settings and preferences. 
  • Gains hands-on experience by providing user training and support as needed for IT-related tasks and systems. 
  • Helps coordinate and schedule office activities related to IT, such as equipment installations and testing. 
  • Troubleshoots any technical issues or challenges encountered during the office move project, escalating as necessary to ensure timely resolution. 
  • Helps maintain detailed documentation of IT-related tasks, configurations, and user setups for reference and future use. 
  • Performs daily tasks of checking backups, verifying VPN is working with access to internal network, and maintaining and updating documentation. 
  • Performs weekly tasks of network speed tests, checking conference room equipment for any issues, and rotating weekly tape backups. 
  • Performs monthly tasks of computer setup configurations, setup meetings, and meeting proctoring. 
  • Cross-collaborates with various IT partners to gain exposure to different facets of IT.

 

Required Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required 
  • Enrolled in an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, ideally in a field related to the internship. 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Ability to work with a team or on your own initiative 
  • Willingness to learn 

 

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Exchange and/or Microsoft 365 experience a plus. 

 

Work Location:

On-site at the Greensboro, NC headquarters.
