Position Title: Esports Arena Supervisor

Department: Recreation and Wellness

Division: Student Affairs

Reports To: Assistant Director, Esports

Hours Per Week: Varies (minimum 10 hours; maximum 28)

Starting Wage: $10.75 / hour

Position Description

The Esports Arena Supervisor position holds significant responsibilities related to the daily operations of the UNCG Esports Arena. The position is responsible for the overall supervision of the patrons, equipment, programs and services within the arena at all times. Arena Supervisors are tasked with providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all, while displaying strong customer service and problem solving skills.

Task & Supervision

Esports Arena Supervisors will receive direct supervision and guidance from the Assistant Director for Esports. Esports Arena Supervisors are expected to work independently, make time-sensitive decisions, and use sound judgment to complete their required duties.

Arena Supervisors are responsible for opening and closing the arena, supervising patrons' use of the facility and equipment, responding to technology issues, collecting facility usage counts, submitting maintenance reports, enforcing arena policies, resolving interpersonal conflicts, providing facility tours, and supporting all events and programs hosted in the arena. Arena Supervisors serve as the direct line of communication to the Esports Administrative staff, to patrons and/or employees, and should represent the Department, Division, and University well at all times.

Arena Supervisor daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Facility Operations (80%)

  • Supervise and execute all daily operations of the UNCG Esports Arena.
  • Provide exemplary customer service to all visitors to the arena.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, clean, welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals.
  • Act as a liaison between patrons and professional staff.
  • Enforce all arena policies and procedures as set-forth by the Department of Recreation and Wellness.
  • Perform repairs and basic troubleshooting when needed.
  • Respond to patron concerns and use conflict resolution skills to find appropriate solutions.
  • Complete opening and closing procedures, ensuring arena safety and security at all times.
  • Supervise arena access to ensure all patrons and guests have met membership and identification requirements to enter the arena.
  • Oversee equipment checkout operations including distribution and inventory of gaming consoles and related equipment.
  • Actively monitor the arena and gaming equipment to determine maintenance, housekeeping or repair needs, and submit maintenance request forms as needed.
  • Complete hourly arena counts to report on usage trends.
  • Perform rounds every thirty minutes to ensure that all patrons are following arena regulations.
  • Assist with set-up, breakdown, and supervision of events, programs, and other reservations within the arena.
  • Assist with controlling audio/visual equipment within the arena.
  • Utilize a variety of technology required to carry out duties, including but not limited to InnoSoft Fusion, Connect2, WhenToWork, ggLeap, audio/visual programs, gaming PCs, gaming consoles, and virtual reality headsets.

Training & Development (15%)

  • Attend all mandatory training sessions.
  • Attend all required monthly Arena Supervisor meetings.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of all Esports Arena policies and procedures.
  • Complete required online trainings.
  • Read and comprehend all work-related emails and communication from professional supervisor(s), and respond in a timely manner when necessary.

Marketing & Promotions (5%)

  • Maintain current knowledge to inform patrons of Recreation & Wellness programs and services.
  • Answer patrons’ questions related to the arena and UNCG Esports.
  • Assist with in-person and virtual marketing and promotion events for the UNCG Esports Arena.

Required Skills, Experience, and Certifications

  • Currently enrolled as a UNCG degree-seeking student in good conduct standing and good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0).
  • Availability to work mid-day, late evening, and/or weekend hours as needed.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer with First Aid from American Red Cross (available upon hire).

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Certifications

  • PC and console gaming experience.
  • Basic PC and console troubleshooting experience.
  • Basic knowledge of PC and console software and hardware.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory position or leadership role.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to think critically and exercise sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
