During the semester, varied availability is required of all applicants; regularly scheduled hours may include early mornings, late nights and weekends. This is for a mid-Spring 2026 start, with possibility of continued employment for Summer 2026 and beyond.

Starting Wage:           $9.25 / hour

Position Description

The Member Services Assistant is a vital position within the Department of Recreation and Wellness, serving as the first customer service representative and primary operator of all Welcome Desk operations at the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness. 

Task & Supervision

Member Services Assistants will receive direct supervision from the Coordinator, Member Services with additional assistance from the Graduate Assistant, Facility Operations & Member Services. While on shift, Member Services Assistants are directly supervised by the Operations Supervisor.

Member Services Assistants daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Access Control (35%)

  • Ensure all entering the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness have necessary forms of identification with them prior to gaining access to the facility.
  • Utilize Innosoft Fusion software to determine if those entering the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness have purchased a valid membership with no holds on their accounts.
  • Manage all guest pass operations by ensuring guests and sponsoring members meet requirements for entry.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date member and guest accounts in Innosoft Fusion.
  • Assist all guests with questions and concerns.
  • Provide directions to guests when asked the location of specific points within the facility.
  • Provide a safe, fun, inclusive atmosphere for guests.

Sales and Inventory (30%)

  • Utilize software (Innosoft Fusion and credit card machine) with knowledge of adequate forms of payment to successfully complete sales.
  • Reconcile cash drawer and receipts at the end of each shift using a daily balance report through Innosoft Fusion.

Equipment Management (20%)

  • Manage all equipment check-out operations by accurately documenting inventory through Innosoft Fusion.
  • Work with others on shift to ensure laundry is getting washed, folded, and stored properly.
  • Utilize Connect2 software to document when an item has not been turned in by the end of the day.
  • Communicate with supervisors when an item needs replacement due to wear and tear or when that item is missing.

Risk Management (10%)

  • Respond to emergency situations and ensure the departmental Emergency Action Plan is executed.
  • Enforce all facility and fitness policies in an appropriate, fair, and equitable manner.
  • Use judgement to make operational decisions based on established policies and procedures.

Staff Training and Development (5%)

  • Attend all required meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Complete required quizzes, equipment trainings, and other developmental projects as assigned.

Required Skills, Experience, and Certifications

  • Must be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student in good academic standing and conduct standing at UNCG.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively with others while maintaining personal accountability to complete duties individually.
  • Willing to work morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled.

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Certifications

  • Passion for working in a well-being focused environment.
  • Previous experience providing customer service and addressing conflict.
  • Previous Point of Sale (POS) experience.
  • A general knowledge of the Department of Recreation and Wellness offerings.
