Makerspace Assistant
Job description
The SELF Design Studio, a pre-service teacher makerspace, is searching for a new graduate assistant, beginning in January 2026. We are searching for someone with the following skills:

Characteristics of our new makerspace assistant:
We are searching for a colleague who:
- is an avid lifelong learner - you enjoy exploring, learning, and building. You also love to share this knowledge with others.
- is creative, enjoys exploring technology that is new to them, and is not afraid to make mistakes
- can work alongside many different types of people, including the studio director, other graduate students, undergraduate pre-service teachers, parents and children.
- has an educational background and experience with STEM-related technologies and a passion for working with college students and children
- has experience leading groups of college students and/or children in formal and informal educational experiences.
Job Duties: (Prior experience is not necessary for all of these - we will train the right applicant)
Our SELF Design Studio assistants:
- support School of Education students with project creation appointments
- train students how to use various tools, including 3D printing (Tinkercad, Sketchup, etc), circuitry, virtual reality, LEGOs, arts/craft supplies, computer programming (Scratch, Twine, Arduino, etc)
- lead workshops and assist in classes / teach classes
- maintain studio inventory (organizing / checking out supplies)
- investigate emerging technologies for the studio and make recommendations for acquisitions
Expectations for time / commitment:
- 10 hours a week (hours can /may range between day / evening depending on your class schedule and needs of the studio)
- Occasional Saturday workshops / community events
SELF Design Studio assistants will report to the Teaching Resource Center Assistant Director.
